Zelnorm Withdrawn from U.S. Market -- Quick Pulse

Summary: On March 30, 2007 , the FDA announced that, at its request, Novartis was voluntarily withdrawing Zelnorm (tegaserod maleate) from the U.S. market. The decision was based on a meta-analysis of 29 trials which found Zelnorm, a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and constipation, is associated with an unacceptably high risk of heart attack, stroke, and angina.
